No matter which area of the UK you live, you no doubt are familiar with the unfortunate annual disturbances in Belfast over the 12th day of July each year. This year was particularly intense and worrying for those living in neighbouring areas.

As most people will know, these troubles are organised and carried out by a very small minority of people who lack any political or public support from any community in N.Ireland. Our hope is that our young people do not carry this in the future of N.Ireland.

To address this by token, NTF ran a Pizza & Peelers evening in West Belfast in partnership with a local Interface Project in the lead up to the 12th, were over 100 cross community young people from one of the main interface areas in West Belfast attended, played football and had free pizza with local community officers.

The young people were able to talk and make jokes with he officers in a relaxed setting, barriers were broken down and the young people safely concluded that the police weren’t bad people out to get them, nor were they aliens, as some previously thought!

In January 2009 SADA opened the alpine house gymnasium and community centre. The new facility is based at Alpine House, Roebuck Lane, West Bromwich, West Midlands, B70 6QP. At the centre we run amateur boxing classes, weight training, cardio sessions and boxercise classes. At the centre will run the inner city boxing scheme. This is an 8 week course for young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET).

Young people are referred by the West Midlands police, youth service and probation service. 10 young people are given the opportunity to carryout amateur boxing training. The participants are trained by professional trainers; at the end of the course the youngsters are given an opportunity to see a boxing show and continue with fitness training. This scheme is supported by West Midlands police, Sandwell council and ex world boxing champion Ritchie Woodhall.

The website will go live within the next week, be sure to check it out!
